In January 2007 I made the decision that from that point on, after a successful corporate career, I would work for myself as a business consultant, for a period of time, in order to enjoy both my independence and the flexibility to undertake interesting projects as they present themselves.

Undertaking freelance business consultancy work, on my own account, for a range of clients has been very satisfying, enabling me to meet and work with many talented people and being in a position to make a difference for the people/companies that I work with.

While having both wide and specific experience, my areas of functional expertise include the following:

Industry sector association (incl. not-for-profit) management:
   - governance and management;
   - sourcing, developing and implementing member benefits;
   - membership programme development, promotion and membership growth.

Management consultancy:
   - strategic and business planning processes;
   - project feasibility and analysis;
   - business development, business policy;
   - organisation development and change;
   - marketing and promotional strategies;
   - workshop facilitation on designated topics.

Government policy:
   - analysis of central and local Government policy, legislation and regulatory proposals;
   - preparation and (if required) presentation of submissions to central and local Government agencies and Parliamentary Select Committees;
   - facilitation of meetings with key decision makers via network of associates.

Telecommunications/Internet services:
   - project feasibility analysis;
   - strategic and business development;
   - product pricing and promotion;
   - sales and account management services, engaging with prospective and existing wholesale/business clients , identifying needs and proposing network and service solutions;
   - client and wider stakeholder communications;
   - close engagement with major telecommunications wholesale suppliers, understanding their wholesale product offers, business/pricing models, online information resources and interacting with members of the industry.

Marketing communications and media:
   - creative communications and marketing strategies;
   - preparation of external and internal written communications, including publications, media coverage, web sites, social media sites, newsletters, magazines;
   - preparation of media feature articles and media releases [eg click on: The Wedding that Rocked Christchurch];
   - building stakeholder and community relations;
   - public speaking and presentations.
